New $200 iPhone 3G Actually More Expensive 9.June.2008
Earlier today, Steve Jobs and company announced the long expected iPhone 3G. There was a huge cheer when he announced that the phone was going to drop to $199 as the new base price. That is $200 less then when the old iPhone was selling for yesterday. However, AT&T has a catch. They are raising the price of their data plan from $20 a month to $30 a month. Since you have to pick up a two year contact with the new $199 iPhone, that means you’ll be paying $919 over the life of the contract for your iPhone. The old pricing which just a $20 a month data plan would have set you back $879 if you were to have purchased the $399 iPhone.
Now that is clever marketing. And to think I was seriously considering getting an iPhone just a couple hours ago.
